小朋友都喜歡色彩繽紛的圖案，填色活動是最簡單有效的方去訓練小朋友認識顏色。透過不同的填色活動，小朋友除了學習不同的顏色之外，同時可以鍛鍊他們手部的小肌肉，有助他們日後運筆控制的力度和技巧。
我會建議家長多安排填色活動給Pre-K的幼兒，以不同的主題去認識更多的新事物。當小朋友填色的時候，家長應給予他們發揮創意的空間，不要規定顏色的選擇和次序，盡量給小朋友自由創作。
其次是選擇顏色筆的重要性，建議選購一些粗身 (圓柱形、三角形) 蠟筆給幼兒填色。不同的年齡階段的小朋友，手部肌肉的需求都不同，家長需要花時間多了解。蠟筆最主要的功能是容易讓小手抓握顏色筆，並能夠隨著力度輕易畫出深淺程度的色彩。填色的過程中，小朋友要掌握運筆的技巧，蠟筆的好處是小朋友若果用力較輕，色彩會較淺 ; 若果用力較重，色彩會較深。他們便可以慢慢地掌握力度，從而調節自己的技巧。
