Bossy R (R Controlled Vowels)

When the letter r comes after a vowel, it “bosses” the vowel and changes its sound. The vowel does not say its usual short or long sound. Instead, it makes a special sound because of the r.

For example: car, her, bird, corn, fur — the r controls the vowel.
